How to Permanently Disable the System Tray on Windows 7 / Vista / XP

Windows System Tray is a very useful application for most us, rarely do we find it intrusive. But some do find it really irritating and useless. Here’s how a simple registry hack can remove your system tray. I can’t really imagine doing the same to my system.

Open Regedit by using Start Menu search or just Run Box and now navigate to the key below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Now if you don’t find the key already all you got to do is create one. Right click on your right pane and create a new 32-bit DWORD value and put the values below:
How to Permanently Disable the System Tray on Windows 7 / Vista / XP

* Name: NoTrayItemsDisplay
* Value: 1
After creating this key, close Regedit and logoff for this hack to take affect.
"Note that this is hack only hides the system tray, your startup programs will still load. You’ll still need to disable your applications manually. If you run into any problems after this hack simple delete this key from registry and your system should be back to normal."

Facebook’s previous policy which enabled your friend’s list to be available for the public didn’t go down well with most of the users. So it backtracked and now you have the option of showing the number of friends or no friends at all.
Here is how you do it.

1. Login to your Facebook account and click on ‘Profile’ at the top.

Note that when I say public access, I mean people who are not in your Facebook friends list. Also, it does not block the applications you have already allowed.

How to stop as ent email in Gmail

Gmail is I really believe one of the best email service providers out there. Its clean, sophisticated and has lots of features that is I think mostly unknown to most of the daily users. And one of them is Undoing your sent email.
How To Stop A Sent Email In Gmail
Gmail Labs have loads of features that other email services don’t offer. One of the m is undoing your sent email.
The Undo Send option in Gmail is very useful if you have sent a email without an attachment or sent it to a wrong person by mistake.
This feature by default is unchecked. You can enable it. Here’s how:

1. Login to your Gmail account and goto the Settings options.
2. Click the Labs tab.

How To Stop A Sent Email In Gmail
3. Enable the Undo Send option and click Save Changes.
Now, here’s the catch. You can cancel the sending only after seconds of hitting the send button. After you get the message “Your message has been sent”, you can’t do anything about it.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Laptop Battery

This is probably the only thing which frustrates many laptop owners: the battery. Sure, your laptop has the latest OS, mindblowing performance characteristics and just out of the factory graphics card but does it got the battery to survive for a long time? Here are some tips to get the most out of your laptop battery for longer survival till you find that plug point.

1. First and foremost, close any programs that you aren’t using right now. You can turn off other features like the Wifi, bluetooth etc. where you wont need them at all.

2. A warm sunny day and I am sure you don’t need that keyboard backlight. Whats the point in that? Turn it off as it also drains a lot of battery power.

3. Turn down your screen brightness. If you are using it mostly indoors there is no point in having maximum brightness where you can very well see the screen at half the brightness.

4. Most laptops today have the “save power” option or widely incorporated as the “Power saving mode”, enable it. This way, your laptop battery is used optimally.

5. Power off your screen if you are idle for 2 minutes or more. Its a small difference but a large one in the end.

6. Avoid powering stuff from your laptop. Charging your phone or other devices can be avoided so as to avoid draining that battery from that laptop.

7. Drain your battery completely once a month. Yes, this is needed to keep the battery for better performance.

Well, what did you think about my tips? Got one of your own? Share it with us!

Three Ways To Edit A Protected Excel File

You may have come across Excel files that are protected i.e files that can’t be edited by you since the original creator protected it. But there are situations where you really want to edit something in that file, so how do you go about it? Here are three ways to edit a protected file.
3 Ways To Edit A Protected Excel File
1. Upload Files To Google Docs
Uploading the Excel file to Google docs will simply unlock the file. You can then save it under a different name and then download it. Sometimes, the alignment may have been disturbed it. You have to realign them manually.
2. Upload File To Zoho Sheets
Just like Google Docs, Zoho also unlocks the file as soon as you upload it and it also gives users a few more features, like the ability to edit spreadsheets stored in SharePoint. You can follow the same process as above to unlock the file. Zoho retains the originality of the file but the fonts appear different.
3. Unlock With Ensode
Ensode has a pretty bad website but it does get the job done better than the above two. Navigate through all those ads and whatnots and at the bottom of the page, upload your file and agree to the terms of use. You can then download the unlocked file and get on working with it. It retains the file as it is without changes.

Turn Off The New Photo Viewer In Facebook

Facebook is constantly updating its features for better interface and faster access. However, not all old-schools’s are happy with it. One of the new features in Facebook, Photo Viewer has received a mixed response.  I for one, is against it. Here is how you remove the new photo viewer feature.
Turn Off The New Photo Viewer In Facebook
There are numerous ways to remove the photo viewer feature.
1. This is a simple one. You can come out of the photo viewer feature by refreshing the page or removing the ‘&theatre’ part of the URL of the page.
2. If you use Google Chrome, you can install the Revert Facebook Photo Viewer extension. After installing the extension, refresh the page and your photo viewer will never see light again.
3. Or you can try the Facebook Photo Fix that does a little modification of the lightbox. The above black background is converted to a light grey one.
4. This one is for both the Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Greasemonkey users. You can download the respective extensions and install them to pawn that photo viewer.

Dedicated to Developers

Dear Developers,

Writing an important article which may be helpful for you.

CLICK ONCE DEPLOYMENT
Microsoft .Net

After the development of full fladged application, when it is time to install it on each and every PC of entire organization, it is cumbersome and hard task.

Click Once Deployment helps you to centralize the installation procedure. All you need to publish your software to IIS (Internet Information Server). Once you publish, it will automatically prepare HTML page which contains the link to install the software.

After the publish of the software, you have to open that link at client PC's browser. It will show you "Install" button, by pressing it, your software will be installed automatically from server to client.

Benefits:
(1) No experts needed for the installation. Even an end-user can install it by simply clicking on Install button. It wont ask anything during installation, so .. no confusion at all...!!!
(2) No need to prepare CD or DVD of the software. Hence stealing the software is not possible now. In addition, server authentication can be applied so the software can not be installed without proper authentication.
(3) Generally, when we install software, the files are being stored into Program Files folders. So anybody can play some trick with those files to break the security. But with Click Once Deployment, the files are stored to some Unknown Location that CAN NOT be traced by anybody. So your software files will be completely hidden, so no question of security breach or fraud or piracy.
(4) What if you have released some updates in the software. In case of normal installation, you have to again install the software to each and every PC of the organization. But.... Here in Click Once Deployment, if you will re-publish the software onto the server, the updates will be installed automatically at each and every client, when the client will execute the software (Same like in many software you will find "Updates Available" notification at start-up).

There are so many other advantages which proves the Click Once Deployment as True Developer's Choice nowadays.

If you have very big organization and regularly updating your software, then Click Once Deployment is really a co....ol choice....

Will keep posting further...

Top 3 Mobile Chat Applications

When We activate GPRS Packs in Mobile, we tend make complete use of it.One of the desired thing is to have Chat IMs(Instant Messenger) on Phone so that one could constantly keep in touch with their Online buddies.
Some of your Phones come with Inbuilt Chat Clients, if you don’t have default Chat Clients you can Use Third Party Chat Clients like Nimbuzz, Fring, eBuddy, mig33, Palringo. Here we try to provide quick insights on some of the IMs.

Nimbuzz
Using Nimbuzz is a Good Experience though it Takes Several Seconds (or even minutes) to make Connection, Sync Accounts and load your Contacts.
It works like Charm when it is Completely loaded if you spare few extra seconds you will enjoy a wholesome chatting experience.
Every 3rd Party Mobile Chat Application Needs Users to Register with them you got to have a Nimbuzz Account before you could add any of other Third Party IMs like GoogleTalk, Yahoo or any another.
Once you are done with login all you need to do is set up all your other IMs which Prompts for your Username and Password.

I integrated my Gtalk Account to Know how it works.. These are the features which i observed
-Great User Interface you don’t feel difficulty in logging in.
-All Chat Sessions are Temporarily saved and different Tabs are maintained
-Unlimited Chat Rooms, Groups etc.
-Supports Voice Calls- Gtalk(Free) Also Call Phone Contacts (Buy Credits) Even on 2G
-Send File
-Share Photos
-Cool Touch Experience, Amazing Smiley Collections.. Must have App for Touch Phones.
-Pop Up Sound is Fresh and less irritative.

Fring
Features observed in Fring.
-Opens in Start Up of Phone(By Default)
-Loading Time is Impressive (Once Connected)
-Has a Cooler Interface than Nimbuzz.
-Notification Sound for Chat sounds bit Irritative when compared to Nimbuzz
-Though it has the Feature to Attach Files, When I sent a File it was Unsuccessful.

-Supports Video Calls
-Supports Voip Calls ( Free with Gtalk)
-One bad thing about Fring is it Displays Google Ads which is Quite Disturbing..

eBuddy
eBuddy’s File Size is Pretty Impressive Just 0.29 Mb.
But Features Seems bit Limited.
- In Addition to all other Chat Clients, it supports Facebook Chat
- Loads Very Quickly and Very Lite
- User Interface is Simple and Average
- Fits only Half of the Screen in Nokia 5230 due to Navigation Keys.
- Do not Support Voice Calls
- No Notification Sound (by default)..

- No Chat Rooms
- A Good App which can be used only as IM and not for calls.

I Rate Nimbuzz and Fring Equally, Nimbuzz has an upper hand over fring as Nimbuzz is not Stuffed with Ads.
Both Nimbuzz and Fring has Cooler interface supporting Voice Calls and easier IM integration eBuddy being Simple, though supports Facebook Chat Client it has limited features (No Voice calls and Chat Rooms) eBuddy beats both Nimbuzz and Fring when it comes to File Size eBuddy is easy to download but has limited support.
If You want Full Fledged IM experience go with Nimbuzz or Fring Application. What Mobile Application do you Use for Chat?
